Sustainable transport

Transport and sustainability seem to be at odds with each other. Of course, there is something to be said for this: most vehicles such as trucks, ships, and airplanes use fossil fuels to move forward. On the other hand, this is precisely why there is much to be gained in the transport sector in terms of sustainability.

The future is green

According to various studies, the transport sector could be completely sustainable by 2050 by reducing CO2 emissions by 80 to 95%. To achieve this, other forms of fuel are being considered, such as a combination of electricity and other cleaner forms of fuel. This may seem impossible now, but the first fully electric cars are already on the road and research into sustainable transport is continuing apace.

Sustainable entrepreneurship

Sustainable entrepreneurship is not only good for the environment, but also for health. High consumption of fossil fuels is directly linked to poorer health. Just think of exhaust fumes, for example. Cities with high pollution levels or high "smog levels" are increasingly setting targets for emission-free city centers. China is also working to reduce pollution as much as possible. But the Netherlands is also calling for sustainable business practices: freight transport must be improved through more efficient and sustainable logistics. Sustainable business is becoming a must: go green!

Tips for sustainable logistics

Precisely because there are so many harmful emissions in the logistics sector, there is much to be gained here. By following a few small tips, a lot can be done to reduce emissions 1. Focus on intermodal transport Intermodal transport is flexible, fast, economical, and sustainable. By tailoring the logistics process to the load, the optimal combination of transport by water, air, and land can be put together. With intermodal transport, traffic jams and other restrictions no longer play as big a role as they do with road transport alone. That is why, for example, we make extensive use of rail transport to transport trailers and containers with goods. 2. Train drivers in "the new way of driving" For some time now, we have been running a driver training program in which drivers are introduced to "the new way of driving ." Drivers are assessed on factors such as fuel consumption, number of braking maneuvers, and emergency stops. If necessary, drivers receive driver training in which they are taught how to drive more efficiently and energy-efficiently. 3. Join forces with transport networks Being part of transport networks prevents trucks from driving with (semi-)empty trailers, among other things. Each partner in the network has its own area in which shipments are picked up and delivered. Shipments are exchanged with other partners from other regions from a central point so that the driver receives the shipments for his or her region. These are then transported to their final destination. This can be done at both the national and international level. Read more about the HST Group's transport networks .

What else does HST do?

HST Group attaches great importance to corporate social responsibility and considers sustainability to be of paramount importance. In addition to intermodal transport, driver training, and the efficient use of transport networks, HST Group has a number of other features that distinguish it from other logistics service providers: The Lean and Green Award and Star HST Group has been awarded the 'Lean & Green Award and three stars' . The Connekt organization awards logistics companies a Lean and Green Award and stars based on structural CO2 reduction. We have taken various measures to achieve a reduction of more than 15% CO2 per transported unit in three years. HST Group was one of the first companies to receive the Lean & Green three stars. The cleanest trucks In addition, we continuously invest in modern and more sustainable equipment, including cleaner trucks. Currently, the majority of our trucks are Euro V and Euro VI. These trucks have the lowest CO2, nitrogen, and particulate emissions and are among the most sustainable trucks available.

Continuing to invest

We understand that it is important to care for both the environment and our employees. That is why we continue to invest structurally and make our logistics processes more sustainable. Read more about our sustainability policy here.
